We’ve put together some affordable home maintenance projects that you can get stuck into this season.
Spruce up your garden and outdoor area
The garden is the perfect place to start your home improvement projects as you’ll be able to enjoy the outdoor space once it’s ready. One of the ways you can make a huge difference to your outdoor area is to pressure-wash the patio or stoned areas. The previous winter season can leave all sorts of dirt and algae on your home’s exterior so it’s best to use a high pressured washer to clean it all up. It’s great for areas such as driveways, decking, patios, stonework and walkways.
Be careful using the pressure washer on painted or wooden surfaces as these can be easily damaged.
Build a shed
This is a great family project that you can get everyone involved in. There are many shed kits you can purchase that include everything you need, or if you are feeling brave, you can attempt to build one yourself! Always check with your local authorities as each city has its own rules and regulations on what you can build without planning permission. Once you have the shed built you can use it as storage or a fun play den for the kids.
Declutter your home
Summer is a good time to visit forgotten places such as garages, loft spaces, basements etc, which can be too cold in the winter to tackle. Decluttering is a great way to get rid of old things or items that are no longer of any use. You can also earn some money by selling unwanted items online.
Checking your gutters
This may not be one of the most fun and exciting projects on the list, but it’s important to protect your home from the winter months ahead. Gutters are notorious for blockages and birds also have a tendency to deposit leaves and twigs in gutters which can also contribute to blockages. If your gutter is left ignored, it could be damaged or worse, you could end up dealing with damages to your property from the leaks or overfill of water. If your gutter is at a reachable height with a ladder, you can easily use a gutter scoop to clean out the area, otherwise, you can always bring in a specialist for the job.
Refresh your house with a fresh coat of paint
We all know summer is the perfect weather for paint projects as it speeds up the dry time plus you have more daylight hours to complete a full paint job. If you have interior rooms or exterior areas of your home that could do with a fresh coat of paint, then now is the best time to do it.
